Relocation
It's usually easier to land in-person jobs than remote jobs as a junior developer. As you gain more experience, you'll have more opportunities to work remotely. For your first job I recommend mostly thinking about in-person jobs.
I relocated from a small town in Southern Utah to Salt Lake City for my first job, and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
Why Relocate?
If you're in a small town or non-tech hub:
- There probably aren't many developer jobs.
- The jobs that exist likely aren't the best.
That doesn't mean you shouldn't look locally first, especially if you're not keen on moving. But if after a few months you feel that greener pastures exist, relocation can be a great option.
Just a couple lifetimes ago people literally walked across continents in search of better opportunities. I'm not saying that it's not harder for some people than others, but the world is a big place, and technologically speaking it's never been easier to pick up your life and move somewhere else. Don't let small excuses hold you back.
