GitHub Profile

Now that you have one or two projects on GitHub that you're proud of, let's update your GitHub profile itself. Your GitHub profile probably won't be looked at quite as often as your projects themselves, but it will be looked at, especially when an employer is researching you before an interview.

Here are some examples of good GitHub profile pages:

Assignment

Fill out your GitHub profile's metadata.

  1. Add a profile picture of yourself.
    1. Take the time to take a good one if you don't have one already.
    2. Smile. Look like a happy person, not someone that's pissed that they're taking a photo.
    3. Ideally a face shot, not your back as you walk away on the beach.
    4. If you really don't want your picture online, at least add something that will make you seem likely to be a real person. Don't leave the default, and don't use a bored ape NFT.
  2. Add your full name as it appears on your resume
  3. Make your GitHub handle (username) something that you're not embarrassed by. Ideally it's just your name or a close variant of it.
  4. Add a short bio. Try to make it technical and unique to you. You can plug your favorite programming language or technology there if you want.
  5. Add your location. This will really help when you're applying to local companies.

Simply having most of the fields filled out makes you look more like a real person! Most bots don't take the time.
