Recruiters

Third-party recruiters can be a fantastic way to land jobs, but they can also be a huge waste of time.

If you're a highly sought-after senior developer with 6 years of experience, recruiters will bend over backward to get you hired because their commissions will be fat. Recruiters can make 30% of your yearly salary when they place you... but only if you're in-demand.

For your first job, it's less likely that a recruiter will be helpful.

It Can Still Be Worthwhile

That said, it won't hurt you to interact with a couple of recruiters if they reach out, and you might just get lucky.

Where you want to watch out is if they're asking you to compile all sorts of information, do homework projects, and hop on calls, and just end up ghosting you in the end. Recruiters often send bulk DMs on LinkedIn to anyone with the keyword "Python" in their profile, and then try to get any responders to do the work of eliminating themselves from the pool.

I recommend that you chat with recruiters if they reach out, and just see how it goes. At the very least it's a good learning experience, but if you get the feeling they're not serious and are wasting your time, don't be afraid to move on to other strategies.
